King Midas and A Touch of Gold

Once there was a King named Midas. King Midas was a very wealthy king. His hobby was collecting gold. From the time he got up in the morning to the time he went to bed, he would count his gold. King Midas also was a foolish and greedy man. He wanted to be the richest man in the world.

One day an old satyr came to King Midas' palace. Midas recognised him as Silenus, a friend of the god Dionysus. Instead of sending Silenus away King Midas invited him to stay and enjoy the time in his palace.

The god Dionysus was pleased Midas had helped his friend and offered to grant Midas a wish. King Midas wished that everything he touched would turn to gold. Then he would be the richest man in the world.

The God granted what King Midas’s wanted and said to him “Midas, I grant you a touch of gold. Whatever you touch, it will turn into gold. But Be careful. What you think will bring you the most happiness might cause you the greatest grief.”

Midas was very happy. He didn’t heed dionysus’s warning. He touch tree and it turned to gold. He touched his palace and it turn into gold. Midas danced joyfully.

But Midas' wish turned against him. He found that he couldn't eat or drink as all his food and wine turned to gold when he touched it! The worst thing was his daughter ran to him crying and complained that all the flowers in the garden had turned to gold.

When midas touched his beloved daughter, she turned into gold! King Midas was extremely sad.

Finally, Midas went back to Dionysus and begged Dionysus to remove the spell. Dionysus told Midas how he could get rid of the gift, he said “Go and bathe in the river of poctulus, and The spell will be gone.”

And than, Midas went to the river and Midas washed his 'golden touch' away in the river Pactulus. King midas was relieved and happy. He rushed to his palace and poured the water form the poctulus river to his daughter. And then, her daughter back to alive.
